"Whistle a Happy Spoon"

It's with something of a sigh that Daniel confesses that about the only thing about Spoon that he did not plan well in advance was the band's name, which was taken from a song by the German band Can.

"It's one of the most boring band names that there ever will be. But hopefully, the way I think about band names is that after you get to know a band well, the name becomes a utilitarian kind of thing. You don't really think about what it means, or how original or creative it is after a while. It's like the Velvet Underground. You don't think, 'What is velvet, and what is underground?'"
